November 16-18 was the NAPHA 18-19 season kickoff in upstate New York. All games were played at Appleton Arena (St. Lawrence University) and Roos House, Arena (Suny-Canton). Although our girls team has turned over some outstanding seniors (Alex Gray, Maude Poulin-Labelle, UVM; Charlie Mailhot Colgate, Rosalie Demers, Colgate; Elin Blomquist, Sweden) as well as losing some exceptional underclassmen transfers (Alexis Guay, BC; Audrey-Anne Veillette, Clarkson; Catherine Foulem),the returning girls committed to the process and most importantly love for our wonderful school.
This years edition includes 12 returning players. In goal, junior Jane Gervais (Wisconsin) and senior Julia McLellan will share the load, while our back end includes junior Emily Holmes and seniors Hanna Johnson (Syracuse) and Isabelle Lebrun (LIU Brooklyn). Up front, the squad includes sophomore captain Marianne Picard (Wisconsin), alternate captain senior Tamara Thierus (UNH), alternate captain sophomore Laurence Frenette (Clarkson), as well as juniors Melianne Reynolds and Isabelle Richard and seniors Audrey Choi and Erin Hinch (alternate captain).
New Spartans to the team are defenseman Emily Fortunato (junior, Laval, Quebec), Dominque Cormier (junior, Ste-Marie-de-Kent, New Brunswick), Portia Eldaun (junior, Sparwood, BC), and Elodie Roy (8th Grade, Sherbrooke, Quebec). Up front, our new forwards include: Ann-Frederik Naud (junior, St-Felix-de-Valois, Quebec), Alexia Moreau (freshman, Louiseville, Quebec), Audrey McCuthceon (sophomore, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec), Victoria Monzerolle (sophomore, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec), Emily Eikelboom (junior, Chesterville, Ontario), and Georgia Bailey (8th Grade, Sherbrooke, Quebec).
In addition to player changes, our staff also looks different with the addition of new head coach Bernie Pimm, and new assistant coach Corie Jacobson (Clakson). Veteran assistant Brittany Sharman (Norwich) returns to the bench to complete our coaching team.
Over the course of the NAPHA kickoff, the girls played hard in each of their four games. With much puck possession and team-first mentality, the girls successfully won all of their match-ups by defeating Trinity College School 3-0, Northwood School 1-0, Nichols School 3-1 and Hoosac School 5-1.
Many names have changed but Stanstead hockey remains alive and well. Our girls and coaches look forward to the next NAPHA event when we host KES, RNS and Rice in early January.
